Creating a Safe Playground

Creating a Safe Playground

Making Your Outdoor Space Safe

The best thing you can give your kids is a safe place for them to be free to play, use their imagination, and grow. We know that one of the biggest reasons you work so hard is to provide opportunities to care for those you love.

So whether you’re a parent, grandparent, family member, friend, school teacher, principal, or daycare provider…your contribution to the community of children goes a long way.

And a major way we show that love and care is by giving them outdoor play. And it doesn’t need to just happen in your backyard for this. It can happen in your school playground, your local parks, recreational centers, and more.

While we know that kids are resilient, unfortunately, they are also easily more prone to injuries.  Getting hurt or falling is part of the journey to taking risks and living out their childhood games and adventures.

We still want them to take those adventures, and grow physically strong. But we want them to be safe while doing so.

It’s easy to worry how bad that fall might be, even when we are right there watching them. If we’re lining our walkways, or playgrounds with real stone that can lean towards higher accidents for little ones at play.

It might be tempting to want to control the way they play by shielding them from everything. But if we interfere, we risk their growth.

Thankfully, there is one thing we can do to create a little more safety. We may not be able to control every fall, but we can control what materials we put in their surroundings, that may soften the impact. That way, we don’t need to interfere with their fun.

For example, let's say you want to create a fun DIY sandbox for your backyard or school playground but are nervous to get started for a few reasons…

The first reason is that you’ve never done it before and are worried about all the materials you’ll need. The second is that you want it to be safe for the kids at play. And the third is that you don’t want to have to hire a professional to get the job done.

Thankfully, here at Beuta, a family-owned business that specializes in landscape edging, we want to bring safety and imagination to your properties. As a small business, with families of our own, we fully believe in our commitment to helping you create that safe space, as we have done for our own.

Step By Step Instructions

So, if you’re looking to get started you could easily do so using our Beuta blocks or bricks.  You can follow these easy steps to get started on your DIY sandbox:

Step 1:

You can simply map out the area needed and make your measurements. You’re going to want to find a flat or flat enough surface.

Step 2:

Once that is done, you’ll need to put the weed guard down. When putting the weed guard down, you’ll need garden stakes, also known as garden staples. You’ll need a few for each side, using a hammer to secure it into the ground.

Step 3:

Next, you will want to line along the edges of the weed guard with any color-style brick or block. (Check out our color options below)  We recommend using our Blocks or Blocks XL instead of our bricks, which would give it a nice raised stone effect, keeping the mulch or sand in.

Step 4:

Once you have your blocks, we give you everything you need such as anchoring spikes to secure the blocks inside. These are safe enough to work with around your kids, even as you set it up. They are also lightweight, making it easy for anyone to put together. So long as you have a hammer, this will be an easy process the whole way.

Step 5:

Finally, you will want to fill that area with sand of your preference. You can quickly trim away the remainder edges of the weed guard to ensure nice clean edges.

And there, you will have an easy, breezy, DIY sandbox!

Remember, you can create safe spaces in any shape you think is best, that are lined with our Beuta brick edging.

You could even do a double layer of edging blocks creating mulch around the inner first layer of blocks and then securing the mulch with edging blocks as well, you’ll be securing and creating a safe landing spot for young children to run and play.

Now, if you’re thinking about this for a playground, whether you have one installed or not but are considering one, we recommend a similar process to follow that of the sandbox.

Blocks Vs Bricks

Now, if you’re looking to know what the best option is for your project in regards to faux-stone bricks or blocks, the preference would come down to you and what works best for your family goals.

Our bricks are much lower to the ground, barely raised from the ground giving it a nice smooth positioned finish. This would be great for children to be able to run more freely around the area without tripping. We recommend using these along walkways or driveways, where children can safely ride their bikes.

It’s also a great option for lining gardens or pools and hot tubs, around areas that might be slippery. That way, you’re ensuring a safer place for your children or the children in your community.

You can still use our Beuta blocks or Blocks XL, they just happen to be a much more elevated option if you’re looking to keep more mulch or gravel in or if you’re going for more of a raised stone-like appearance.

So whatever you plan, you can trust Beuta to help you take care of your children, your family, and your community by creating safe and nurturing environments for all.

Thankfully, our products were engineered with quality ingredients such as poly-resin materials that make them flexible and durable for any project you have in mind. They are resistant to weather elements as well as corrosion, and a much softer option that is safe enough for a child to walk along.

You can rest easy with peace of mind knowing you’re making your outdoor spaces safer for kids, all while saving your hard-earned money and not having to hire a professional.

The Beuta Promise

Lining the yards with faux stone-looking blocks versus real stone will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. (If you don’t believe us, check out our blog section on our website below on a breakdown of how much Beuta products cost in comparison to hiring a professional)

We deeply care about what happens in our community and allow the next generation freedom to play safe in the great outdoors. We look forward to partnering with you on your next project endeavors and to making you feel empowered for these easy DIY projects...
