Frequently Asked Questions

Corten steel is a marine grade steel that is meant to develop a rust-like, oxidized, or “patina” finish that then stops further deterioration from happening. If you have ever noticed a large bridge or even some building features that look rusty, it’s most likely Corten steel and holding up great.

Out of the box, this edging will have more of a Blue steel look, and will slowly patina over time. If you want it to look patina right away, there’s a way to accomplish that with a few household items, with instructions linked here. If you leave it up to nature, it will often  take anywhere from 6 months to a year to reach a full patina - depending on your climate. Given the natural/organic nature of the process, The specific look of the patina finish may vary.

Yes. The 16 gauge thickness of the steel along with the rolled edge on the top offer the right amount of rigidity and flexibility. To bend your edging place one end on the ground, the other end up in your one hand, and press in on the middle of the edging with your other hand. You can also step on it and bend it. Be careful not to overbend or “kink” the metal, bending a little bit at a time until you reach your desired curve. We also offer 90 turn clips

Follow these instructions, or watch this video!

  • Place edging with clips in the middle and end.
  • Secure the edging by hammering in the pin through the back of the clip
  • Place additional edging using a clip to seam two pieces of edging
  • To bend/curve edging, leverage it gently using the ground or you knee

Just like our faux stone edging, measure the length of your edging project with a tape measure. Then divide that number into 4 foot increments to determine how many four foot sections are needed. If the number is not divisible by four, fill in the rest with either our 2 foot, 1 foot, or 6 inch steel edging pieces. Also keep in the use of 90 turn clips

The difference between the clips is purely aesthetic. The corten steel clips will match the edging pieces, while the stainless steel clips add a pop of brightness to your project. Both material will hold up great over time.

No, with corten steel you can set it and forget it. If you get some dirt splattered on it that you don’t like you can always spray it with a hose or brush it off.

Just a hammer for the pins, and some gloves to protect your hands
