How To Create A Tree Ring With Landscape Edging

A perfectly planted tree can captivate a person’s view and enhance your outdoor space tremendously. One of the simplest ways to polish an outdoor space is by adding a tree ring! From grand oak trees to newly planted saplings and towering palms, adorning a tree with landscape edging can take your garden design to the next level.

Benefits of a Tree Ring

Adding a landscape ring creates visual interest, yes, but it has practical benefits too! The main purpose of a tree ring is to contain mulch and keep it off your lawn. Mulch acts as a temperature regulator for trees, retains soil moisture, and reduces erosion. Mulching under trees but away from the tree trunk results in fewer weeds to compete with tree roots for water, too.

Material Selection

There are a lot of material options when creating a tree ring. You can use stone, steel, plastic, or none at all! This project opted for faux-stone from Beuta. The flexible, 4-foot sections made measuring, planning, and installing this project super easy. Beuta is available in 3 heights, 5 different colors. Their available tree ring kit comes with all the Beuta components you need to create a 12-foot circumference tree ring.

As mentioned earlier, no matter the climate, you can do this with any tree that works best for your environment. So once you've made your tree selection, find the best place possible for your new backyard addition, making considerations such as sunlight, soil conditions, and visual appeal.

You can watch here to see how Anna, created a stunning tree ring. The best part is that it was all done in one day, or better yet, just one fulfilling afternoon. And she completed it all on her own, using limited tools.

Tools Used For The Landscaping Project

The right gardening tools such as quality gloves, and shovels make all the difference in any garden project. Gather all of your tools so that you are ready to start planting. What’s great about a project like this is that most of these tools you may already have, including your tree. This project used:

  • Weed Guard
  • Landscaping Staples
  • Shovel
  • Rake
  • Hammer
  • Mulch, about 4 bags
  • Beuta Blocks

Installation

Begin by roughly laying the sections in the desired shape. This does not need to be perfect. Remove the anchoring pins from each section as you go.

Then, connect the sections moving in one direction until they are all connected together, forming a complete circle. Readjust the ring as needed to ensure it is centered around the tree and that the circle is just as you like it. 4-foot Beuta Block sections come with 2 anchoring spikes each. Use your hammer to drive the pins through the designated staking holes in the sections.

Pro Tip: To drive the pins as far as possible, keeping them from sticking up, you can use the final pin to drive the other pins further into the ground.

That's it! The hardest part of this project is finished. Now it's time for fun stuff. Using a a complimentary mulch color makes the tree and Beuta combo stand out. Here we opted for a classic brown mulch.

Finish the project here or add seasonal decor for an extra visual boost. You don’t need to pay a professional or design a full backyard makeover to make beautiful and easy landscaping an option for your property.

Like a picture frame securing a precious moment, Beuta blocks secure your landscaped gardens.
